MIHN NEWS
Do you speak Spanish or Portuguese? We are seeking volunteers who speak Spanish or Portuguese to help translate for guest families. Contact director Beth Cooper at 508-318-4820. There will be a voluntary informal Q&A session for volunteers on Sunday, November 2nd, at 11:30 a.m., in the Boardroom. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions that might not have been answered in the training sessions, or that are specific to our hosting week beginning Sunday, November 9th.

FALL FELLOWSHIP CELEBRATION
Please mark your calendars and save the date for this year’s Fall Fellowship Celebration. If you attended last year’s party, you already know how much fun is in store this year. Fine food, drinks and fellowship will be on hand Saturday, November 8th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the home of Cindy and Rob Jaczko at 51 Abbott Road in Wellesley. If you are a Wellesley Middle School parent with an event later that evening, please plan to join us early. Many thanks to the Jaczkos for opening their home to our members in celebration of our stewardship to one another.

IT’S CONGREGATIONAL CHOIR TIME AGAIN!
Once again we are inviting all interested singers to join in with our wonderful Chancel Choir as part of a Congregational Choir presentation. If you’ve ever wanted to sing with our choir but didn’t have the time to attend rehearsals every week, this is a great opportunity! And if you’ve joined us in the past for the Congregational Choir, we hope you’ll come back! We ask that you attend at least two of these three rehearsals: Wednesday evenings, November 5th, 12th, and 19th, from 8:00 p.m. till 8:45 p.m. We’ll be singing at our regular 10:00 a.m. service on “Thanksgiving Sunday,” November 23rd; this year we’ll be performing two Thanksgiving anthems, one with handbell accompaniment! If you have any questions, please speak to John Finney or any member of the Chancel Choir. (John can be reached at 508-652-9938 or
johnf@hillschurch.org.)

PARISH LIFE SPONSORS NIGHT OF SQUARE DANCING
What do circles, parallel lines, and squares all have in common? Dancing, not geometry. Put on your dancing shoes and join the Parish Life Committee on Saturday, November 15th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., for a fun night of traditional and contemporary dancing. With simple instructions from our experienced caller, we’ll quickly get moving across the Assembly Room in a wide variety of fun dancing shapes. All adults (partners not required) and children grade school age and older are invited. Refreshments (beverages and desserts) will be served.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
Between now and November 23rd, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we are trying to collect as many ‘things’ (see lists below) so that our children, through the sorting of these items, can be made aware of what we can do for our neighbors. Please be as generous as you can, especially in these tough times, and help our children work toward loving their neighbors as themselves—the theme of November’s Church School.

Toiletries:          We really need sample DEODORANT! Keep the other items coming too, please
Adults:               White socks and underwear/hats/mittens/ lightly used jackets or coats
Children:            White underwear/hats/mittens/small toys/ lightly used jackets or coats
Food Pantry:     Tuna fish, canned beef stew, baked beans, canned vegetables, pasta sauce (tin or plastic containers only), Spaghettios, paper towels, toilet rolls.

There are baskets at both entrances to the church for Toiletries and Wellesley Food Pantry.  All other donated items should be directed to Jim Brommers Bergquist via the church office.

There’s another big event at the Hills Church on November 8th called the “Scouting for Food” drive. Please contact Gail Lockberg at gaillockberg@prudentialtnc.com, if you would like to volunteer to help at this event.

SOUPER SUPPER: THE SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS OF CONGREGATIONALISM
Join our Senior Minister Matt Fitzgerald for a unique exploration of the Congregational tradition. As a church we are organized in a very particular way. Our members make our important decisions. Our church is autonomous, but in covenant with other congregations. Power is dispersed throughout our church, rather than residing with one person, one board, or one office. Why is this the case? Where did this practice come from? How does it reflect our convictions about who God is and who we are? How does our organizational structure affect our belief? How are our beliefs shaped by our organizational structure? Why do we have so many meetings, and what does this have to do with God? Come for a great dinner and a great conversation on Wednesday, May 11th, at 6:15 p.m. in the Reception Room.

CHURCH SCHOOL PARENT GATHERING
On Saturday, May 14th, parents of Church School aged children (infants and up) are invited to the home of Dawn and Jeff McGrew at 7:00 p.m. This will be a great night to connect with one another, share some food and drink, and hear about the exciting plans for the 3rd floor and for the children of our church. Please RSVP to Jim Brommers Bergquist at jim@hillschurch.org.

4th ANNUAL “WALK FOR WATER” IS COMING…SUNDAY, MAY 15th
This year, our church will be the regional host site for the Water 1st “Carry 5” event. We will gather at noon in the Assembly Room, then head off on a 5-km walk. Email jim@hillschurch.org if you have any questions, or would like to help us host this event.

TUESDAY’S BREAKFAST
Do you remember Men’s Breakfast? On Tuesday, May 17th, at 7:00 a.m., we will have a renamed, repackaged, wake-up event in the Assembly Room. Come get a cup of coffee, a gourmet prepared breakfast, listen to a speaker, and be out on the road by 8:00 a.m. Breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m., followed by a speaker (to be named) at 7:30 a.m. This is open to men and women alike! RSVP to John Schuler (johnanddwinschuler@verizon.net) or Bill Spencer (bspencer@p2software.com).

INTERFAITH COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY DRIVE
The Hills Church will join the entire Wellesley interfaith community during the next 6 weeks in an effort to restock the Wellesley Food Pantry. Each congregation has been asked for a specific product, and Hills Church members are asked to contribute paper towels and toilet paper. The drive runs from April 3rd until May 14th, at which time all congregations are asked to bring their donations to the Food Pantry. Specially-marked boxes will be placed in our narthex, so please be sure to buyextra paper towels and toilet paper for this year’s Interfaith Community Food Drive.

HILLS CHURCH YOUNG ADULTS GROUP FORMS
While there are a lot of us in the congregation, many of us don’t yet know each other. This is an opportunity for us to connect and to form a group tailored to 20- and 30-year olds. Come to the Library immediately after church on Sunday, February 13th, to share in bagels and coffee, say hi to old friends, and meet some new ones. If you can’t make it, please send your contact information to Anna Spencer to get on the list for future events (spencer.anna@gmail.com, or call 339-222-6811).

The Deacons Spirituality Committee is delighted to announce that, beginning next month, on Monday, February 14th, at 8:00 a.m. in the 3rd-floor Youth Room, the weekly one-hour prayer/meditation group Still Waters will resume.
